How planning and preparation can help you avoid shipping delays

 In Blog, The Galuku Story

Plan now, prepare for the future and order early! This is the continued message for our customers as the shipping crisis continues around the world. While the team at Galuku continues to work hard to deliver coir where and when our customers need it, early preparation saves everyone stress.

Around the world, shipping still sucks

The continual rise in the cost of freight and the uncertainty in securing empty containers has been a huge hurdle for the horticulture industry in the wake of COVID-19. At Galuku, we are always working towards the success of our customers and our efforts extend to include making best use of the available options for shipping. These challenges are being felt globally, however Australia being an island nation and reliant on competitive shipping has been impacted disproportionately.

According to the Drewry World Container Index, prices for sending a 40ft container from one end of the world to the other have climbed over 500% in the past 18 months. Additionally, there is a continual shortage of containers and ships, meaning higher value freight is prioritised for a place.

Shipping a container to more lucrative markets like the USA or Europe can be worth double or even triple to the shipping companies in freight revenue, whilst countries like Australia are being left behind. According to Stockhead, this tangle of shipping could take over 12 months to settle whilst the world waits for more ships and empty containers to come online.

However it’s not all bad news for farmers around the world.

Supporting you to succeed

Shipping might be a difficulty, but at Galuku we are still here working to help you and your farm succeed. Our quality coir substrate and other growing products are still being made in our factories and getting shipped to customers in various locations.

No matter where you are located, getting your coir and other products to you on time can be difficult with the current freight climate. This means that planning and preparation are key for success!
